COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

NO VETERAN LEFT BEHIND

The Marine Corps League is dedicated to helping all veterans. Whether it is to provide food for veteran families in need or to help feed homeless veterans. We are always in need of items and donations to help keep this program moving forward including non-perishable food items, gift cards, hygiene items, blankets, toys, and other much-needed items. We partner with many other organizations to keep this program alive.

TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM

We participate in our local Toys for Tots program in many ways. We can provide personnel to assist with sorting and bagging toys to be ready to hand out to local Non-Profit Organizations. We have some members that have trucks and will go out to drop off locations and collect toys to be brought back to the reserve unit. Whatever our coordinator needs, they know they can count on our full support.

PARADES

Detachment 564 participates in all holiday parades when possible. Veteran's Day, Christmas, St Patrick's Day, and others. Our floats consist of a mock-up of a Higgins Boat in which our Marines and Family's members can ride during the parade. We also have a Jeep Willy that is driven in the parades. The local Reserve Unit also participates and provides the Color Guard for parades and many other events.

SAVANNAH MARINE CORPS MONUMENT

One of our dearest and most enjoyable events in when we conduct a Memorial Ceremony each year on November 10th. What makes this ceremony so impressive is the fact the Savannah has many tourists and any time during the year. Anyone may take a seat at the ceremony and afterwards our detachment takes time to talk with everyone. Before the ceremony, the detachment meets for breakfast each year.
